I am Nancy Park, the second generation of medical professional people in my family.
My mission in this practice is to uncover truth, create understanding, facilitate healing, and support life. In my clinical and personal experiences, these four things have come together in my best work, deepening what it means to live for not just myself and my patients but for all whom we touch.
I am a generalist: I take care of infants and elders, from the beginnings to endings of life, working with people experiencing everything from pain to a lack of feeling, acne to insomnia, competitive athleticism to involuntary tremor, pregnancy to cancer and all the attendant emotional and psychological states, individuals and families.
Acupuncture
My primary teachers, including my parents Drs Young Wu Park and Hee Woo Park, have been Patsy Roth, Kiiko Matsumoto, Mark Seem, Mark Thompson, and Mikio Sankey.
Since 2004, I have applied acupuncture in a variety of settings, from my private Manhattan practice to field work in Peru, clinical settings for community at low cost, and home visits for pediatric and palliative care, at times caring for over a hundred people in a day. I have been part of a weekly training regimen for a cadre of elite athletes competing in Iron-level triathalons. I have attended births and facilitated safe outcomes for women in extended labors. I served on the clinical faculty for several years and chaired the Advisory Board at the Tri State College of Acupuncture in New York City.
Herbal Medicine
I grew up on medicinal cooking, an inheritance of my Korean culture, and strategic eating for health is a fundamental part of my lifestyle, so my expertise around oral medicine is rooted in daily nutrition. I also have a developed, state board approved and initiated relationship with herbal decoctions and spirit medicine.
Social Health
I work on behalf of the community in the arena of social justice, with particular foci on indigenous sovereignty and money. Inspired by Occupy and Standing Rock, I have organized numerous actions and written several resolutions passed unanimously by the Santa Cruz City Council.
I was also a trustee and co-led the development committee of the Santa Cruz Waldorf School. I have taught on Asian medicine, tradition, and qi cultivation practices to middle school students.
Environmental Health
I have a direct relationship with the natural world and understand my own human needs by stewarding land, growing plants, tending animals, and participating in construction and structural development.
The Acupuncture Profession
I offer consulting services for acupuncturists who are seeking to refine their practice in the areas of: removing racism, treating pain, needle technique, patient relationships, ethical business management.
Education
I have studied medicine at Five Branches University, Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, the Tri-State College of Acupuncture, and the Thai Massage Institute of Chiang Mai.
I earned my bachelors degree in Economics, studied the core curriculum of western civilization, and dabbled in computer science, women’s studies and anthropology at Columbia College in New York.
I have advised educational institutions and financial services broker/dealers on development, and I created industry-leading conferences for health insurance executives, pharmaceutical publication planners and mutual fund distributors.
I am the mother of two children.
